EVERYDAY USE!!!

I think when the mother refuses to let Dee have that quilts indicates that its going to be a permanent change. Because it says in the story Dee was always accepted and the world never learned to say no to her. The reason she never did that to her before was because she never has before in her life and didn't know how to break it to her. She does it now because she realizes that Dee wasn't the one perserving the quilts by putting them up on the wall, it was Maggie that was perserving their heritage because she knew how to quilt.
